Day 4 (morning)

Good morning everyone! I seemed to have forgotten to post yesterday. I know I said on my last post that I would post my stats yesterday, but I didn't. So instead of putting it at the bottom of my post, I'll start with my current weight loss:

I currently weigh 186 lb.
total weight loss of 7 lb.

My last post I reported some heavy symptoms from my fast. Today I am feeling so much better. I have no hunger pains at all! I am slightly dizzy when I move too fast, and it is a bit harder to move around as I do feel weak, however, that's the only symptom I really feel. My body has completely hit ketosis, which makes this fast much more bearable. Yesterday wasn't much different than today. I'm noticing my facial blemishes are starting to slowly disappear. The dry patches in my skin are also fading. so healing has already begun. I won't notice any changes in my scars until after the 15th day.

My husband has stopped the fast. He stopped yesterday. It became too difficult for him to concentrate at work. His weight, before ending the fast, was at 269 lb. Bringing him to a total loss of 12 lb. The reason why he was losing weight so quickly, was partly due to the fact that he was doing push ups and sit up early in the morning. He said it gave him energy for the day.

I am still going strong, and determined to get through this fast. Any questions you guys may have for me, feel free to post them in the comments, or email me at the1derland@gmail.com

Day 2 update

I won't lie, today has been terrible! I'm really light headed, nauseous, and tired. I have been really struggling with the fast today. I have been desperate to break it. Day 2 is suppose to be the hardest day, and I can see why. I've had no energy all day today. I keep trying to remind myself of the benefits that are gained by the end of my fast. Water fasting offers the quickest detox and strongest therapeutic effect. It is also the most challenging fast to perform in the first few days. A true water fast maintains a zero caloric intake. This means water only, nothing added to it. The more toxic your body is, the more intense your discomfort will be. With that being said, it is easy to remind myself that the discomfort I am feeling is due to how toxic my body is. Which reminds me of why I'm doing this in the first place. As my body struggles to enter a state of ketosis, I'm really starting to feel the symptoms. The speed at which old conditions can right themselves during a water fast is incredible. It's amazing the little health "issues" that just go away.

After the first 3 days, my body should adjusts to the new fasting state, I should feel little further discomfort, even hunger should disappear. After 2-3 days, my body goes into a state called ketosis, where it begins to fuel itself internally by burning fat cells. The length of time one can safely operate in ketosis varies from person to person. When hunger returns, often called "true hunger", it will be an unmistakable call of the body for nourishment, and is a signal to end the fast. I will post current stats on tomorrows post. I'm extremely tired, and am off to bed.
today I have consumed about 119 oz, of water.

Day 1 continued....

This is just an update of the second half of day 1.

My earlier post today stated how I felt no hunger pains, well that did change. I started to really feel it around dinner time while I was cooking my kids food. I'm sure this partly had to do with smelling the pasta and garlic bread I cooked for my children. After downing a bit more water though, I was able to curb the pain.

Today I have had a total of 102 oz. of water.
(the husband has reported the same amount)

Making meals for my children is going to be my biggest struggle during this fast.

After my husband got off work today, he's complained of a constant head ache. Nothing extreme, but we are assuming it's from caffeine withdraw. My husband did cheat earlier, and had one spoon full of potato salad. I may have licked my finger after getting garlic sauce on it while cooking my kids dinner (not sure if that counts LOL).

  • I have lost a total of 1 lb. since this morning.

Bringing me at a total current weight of 192.
  • My husband has lost 3 lb. since this morning.

Bringing him at a total current weight of 278.

(Off subject here) after this fast, I have been heavily contemplating starting a vegan diet. If anybody has any good family recipes, that are kid friendly, please email me at the1derland@gmail.com . I think a change in diet would be necessary to avoid putting the same junk back into my system.

Update on day 1

So far so good. I haven't had any more then mild, faint hunger pains. I have been relaxing for most of the day while my kids play outside. I don't feel tired, or exerted yet. I thought I would be more drained by now. It's about lunch time (12:00 pm) and I have had about 34 oz. of water so far. I have urinated a bit more then usual, and so far that's the only symptom I have felt.

The three most common water fast symptoms are:

  • headaches
  • Malaise
  • dizziness
  • nausea
I'm only half way through day one, so it's still early. Though the worst symptoms of fasting such as malaise tend to stop after 2-3 days. Any time I start to feel hungry, I drink water until I no longer feel hungry. If you're going to attempt this fast, don't overexert yourself, and maintain healthy sleep patterns. I had about 9 hours of sleep last night. Drink at least 7 to 10 glasses of water, each 8 oz., every day. Natural spring water is the best option, but if you don't have access to that, then whatever you need to do to drink enough water is what you'll have to do. If you're having a hard time going without flavor, try drinking flavored water like propel. I have a hard time consuming enough water, without flavor, to keep me hydrated. So to keep myself hydrated properly throughout this fast, I bought a few cases of Propel water.

Nutritional facts for Propel include:
0 Calories
0 fat
0 sugar
0 protein
160 mg of sodium
40% Vit. C
20% Vit. E
50% Vit. B6
50% Niacin
50% Pantothenic Acid

Avoid intense exercise during this time. You don't want to run your body down. At the same time, you don't have to avoid exercise all together either. Instead of going on a run, try going on a light walk to keep your muscles strong. Walking will also help aid in the detoxification process as well. Instead of weight lifting, try yoga as a calming way to stretch your body's muscles. It's good to keep your body exercised wile fasting, and in fact, encouraged, if you're doing the proper exercise. above all, make sure you're drinking plenty of water.

I know this post might be slightly premature, we will see how I feel later. If my symptoms change, I'll be sure to post them later. In the mean time, I'm going to increase my water intake, and prepare my kids lunch :)
For anybody else doing this fast along side with me, stay strong. There are benefits in the end! :)

7 day water fast.... DAY 1

Fasting is an exceptionally ancient, and powerful, approach to healing many common disease conditions. It allows the body to rest, detoxify, and to heal. During fasting the body moves into the same kind of detoxification cycle that it normally enters during sleep. It uses its energy during a fast, not for digesting food, but for cleansing the body of accumulated toxins and healing any parts of it that are ill. As a fast progresses the body consumes everything that it can that is not essential to bodily functioning. This includes bacteria, viruses, fibroid tumors, waste products in the blood, any build up around the joints, and stored fat. The historical record indicates that human beings are evolutionarily designed to fast. It is an incredibly safe approach to healing and the body knows how to do it very well.

I have read a lot about water fasting and it's health benefits. I decided to try a 7 day water fast for health. My husband will be joining me on this journey, however, until I convince him to let me post his pictures, there won't be many picture updates on him. I will report the amount of daily water intake, any breaks in the fast, and any symptoms my husband or I have.
Follow me and watch me through this journey. I will post at least once a week every Sunday.

I woke up recently, and looked in the mirror. Not like we all do casually when we get undressed to take a shower. I really had a good look in the mirror. Prior to having my kids, I was healthy, energetic, looked and felt good. Recently, I've realized, I'm only 27, and I move around like I'm about on my death bed. I have very little energy, I get random head aches, and I have gained a massive amount of weight. I'm just plain sluggish. I started researching ways to heal my body from what I have done to it. I stumbled across water fasting, with the advice of my sister. This, of course, took me back a bit. I thought water fasting was unhealthy, and considered anorexic. I didn't even think our body's could survive without food for as long as they can. I had greatly under estimated the natural healing power my own body potentially has.  Assuming I have the self control to go through with the entire fast, I would like to see the end results. Now for some current stats:

  • I am 5' 8"
  • I have been through 3 full term pregnancies (back to back)
  • I weigh approximately  193 lb.
(pictures to be added later)
  • my husband is 6' 4"
  • No pregnancies (LOL)
  • He weighs approximately 281 lb.
